About Us

Who We Are

Our Work

Christchurch Life Saving Club was founded in April 1970 and provided a lifeguard and first aid service to beach users for a number of years. We are based at Friars Cliff Beach in Christchurch and currently have members ranging from 8-50+. We have both Nippers (7-12 years) and Youth sections.

Throughout the summer, our Youth members work towards gaining the skills necessary to achieve the SLSGB Surf Lifeguard Award whilst the Nippers work towards the SLSGB Nipper Pathway Awards. During the winter, we move to the swimming pool where Juniors and seniors focus mainly on achieving the skills required for their Pool Lifeguard certificate and Nippers go through our own CLSC Nipper awards. As well as all these lifesaving skills, we also train for Surf Lifesaving Sport. Various competitions take place regularly throughout the year, some run by the Poole, Bournemouth and Christchurch Life Saving Association (PBCLSA) in addition to the SLSGB national and regional competitions.

We pride ourselves on having a positive impact within our local community and are often finding ways to raise money for other local charities, not just our own. Our members benefit from the close-knit family feel that has been developed throughout our 50 year history.

Giving Back

New Years Day

We've always prided ourselves as being a community club, we strive to provide a  service for the local community as a way of saying thank you for the incredible support we recieve from them.

Our major community event has always been our New Years Day Dip in aid of Macmillan Caring Locally. Club organised and club funded we've run our annual dip for over a decade and its become quite the tradition in Friars Cliff.

In 2017, 2018 and 2020 the club raised a combined total of over £4,000 for MacMillan Local.

Development

New Club Hut Project

For many years it has been our ambition to develop within the plot of land that we currently occupy to create a building more suited to our work and to allow us to continue to train the next generation of pool and beach lifeguard.

Following our Public Planning Consultation Evening on the 11th of September 2017 Christchurch Borough Council approved the amended plans on the 24th of May 2018.

This is an exciting step forward in the largest singular project in our organisations history.
